Rationale:
Throughout the course of the history of astronomy, from Earlier Prehistory to the Age of Space Flight, power structures existed, which more or less had been derived from and related to astronomical phenomena or had been based on certain cosmovisions. These significantly affected and formed the economic, social, political, artistic, and religious life of man in different cultures.
Cosmographies, time reckoning and calendar systems, celestial navigation techniques, landscape and architectural models of cosmic potency, celestial divination and astrological ideas, cosmic clothing, and other astronomical related concepts had been successfully used by interest groups to establish, to maintain, and to expand psychic, social, religious, and political power. The interaction of social and cultural reforms and revolutions with altered astronomical concepts and models of the world often is obvious.
In addition it may be considered to discuss the topic of astronomy and power in the 20th and 21st c., especially the exploitation of archaeoastronomy and ethnoastronomy by certain interest groups.
